I sat down in front of a piano and my friends just laughed. When I started to play it all just changed. How would you want to be a really good piano player and wow your friends. If you just want to learn how to play an instrument the piano is a great instrument to start with.
Learning to play musical instrument is more beneficial than it seems on the surface. If you can play the piano you have learnt precious cognitive skills and also hand eye coordination. Memory in the brain would have improved and you will already be smarter than the people that don't know how to play any instruments.
Before we can get started with learning how to play the piano. You first have to decide on which piano to buy and where to buy it. When you are practising you would need a piano of your own. It is a lot easier to practise if you own your own piano. Playing at a friends house once every week just isn't going to cut it.
Pianos are moderately priced and range from the very cheap to the super expensive. If you are just a beginner, then getting one that is around 1000 dollars will just be fine. I recommend that you take a look at this article before you even consider purchasing a piano.
When we play the piano for the first time. The first thing that you will need to get right from the get go is your posture. Sitting correctly on the chair in front of the piano is one of the most important things. If you get this step wrong you can cause some serious damage to your posture. You don't want to be a hunchback do we? Invest in a good piano chair that feels comfortable. You should be able to sit for an hour on the piano chair and not feel uncomfortable afterwards. The chair should placed in a position similar to that of a computer chair. Your legs should be at right angles and you arm should form an angle slightly larger than a right angle. Your fingers should be in a position that is relaxed and you should feel like you are palming an orange in your hand. Sit dead center in front of the piano and get a feel for the keys.
You would notice that a piano has black and white keys. The keys are labelled A through to G called an octave and they will repeat along the piano. Feel the weight of the keys as you press down on them. Feel them bouncing back up and press each one in order and listen to them.
Find where middle C is. It should be the white key smack bang in the middle. You can recognise it by three black keys together on its left and two black keys on its right. Press this with your right thumb and then use your right index finger to play the next white key. Use your middle finger on the next white key and then use your right thumb on the next. Continue playing the white keys till you have reached you pinky. You have just played the C major scale.
